Top Gun Triathlon - Fort Desoto Park
1/4 mile swim, 10 mile bike, 3.1 mile run.
This was an awesome race. Fort Desoto Park is over by St. Petersburg FL and its a swim in the Gulf. I had a great time - Brett and I drove over the night before and met up with my friend Alex at packet pickup and went to dinner with other Triathletes. Dinner was kinda mehh but the laughter was out of control.
Ok So race day - up early, get my bike and stuff set up - wait in line to use a port-o-potty - then head down to the beach.
Swim:
Swim was awesome - swam out then down the beach instead of an out and back type thing. Though coming out of the water you had to run on a boardwalk and it was narrow so some girls would walk slowly side by side so you couldnt get by...
Triathlon 1 Results 14:37
Triathlon 2 Results 12:27
Triathlon 3 Results 8:07
Yowwwwwzzerrs! Everyone says swimming in the ocean is easier than lakes - So excited about the decrease in time. Now just have to make sure I keep the time down for Tri #4 coming up.
Bike:
The ride was nice - though because this was a USAT sanctioned event there were rule enforcers watching via motorcycles writing down #'s to hand out time penalties - luckily I received zero.
When you started the ride it was great- I was averaging 17-18mph but.....upon the way back in you didnt realize there was a wind which was in your favor going out so coming in I had to fight it which reduced my mph to 16. Definately can tell Spin class 2-3 times a week is helping.
Triathlon 1 Results 12.4 Miles - 49:14 - 15.11 avg mph
Triathlon 2 Results 11.7 Miles - 49:19 - 14.23 avg mph
Triathlon 3 Results 10.0 Miles - 36:59 - 16.22 avg mph
Run:
I was not a fan of this run - it wasnt a run on the beach but almost in the grass where park service vehicles drive. I wish I had a pic but i dont....anyways - the first mile was almost entirely in soft sand - Soft sand sucks, bad! and again because it was mostly a path for service vehicles - narrow.
At Mile 2 guess who comes to bother...I mean Encourage me? my friend Alex (who by the way got 1st in her age group because shes that good!). I was dying after the soft sand and shes the "come on come on youre almost there" type. So I'd run....walk catch my breath and she'd say no you gotta run so we wouldnt catch any breaths and keep running. As much as I wanted to kill her I'm glad I have a great friend who wants to help me improve. While we were running she noticed I run "heavy" aka feet pounding the ground - so thats my new goal before race 4 - to learn to run better (which I've started already with brett). So Hopefully race #4 I'll have a better run time.
Triathlon 1 Results 2.75 miles - 35:26 - 12:53 per mile
Triathlon 2 Results 3.90 miles - 53:13 - 13:38 per mile
Triathlon 3 Results 3.10miles - 36.51 - 11:53 per mile.
Final Results:
Triathlon 1 - 1:45:47
Triathlon 2 - 1:58:47
Triathlon 3 - 1:25:49

Ok OK I'm back...
Hiya there Slacker, welcome back to your blog.
Ok so after a year of cliffhangers I'm going to start (trying) updating more often.
Made some changes in my life (aka - new job = less stress & hours = more time for training)
with my new job i'm close to home, close to the gym and so maybe I am going to give this a one more try thing to keep me on track.
So with all this being said lets go make a new post of the last Tri I did a week ago.
:)
